By 2019 the national marine traffic should reach 91 million tons thanks mainly to the development of containers and the growth of bulk liquid. The progress in importation of petroleum products, the increase in exportation of containerized vegetables and the fishing industry and the good performance of the automobile exportation will raise up the traffic.
According to the information note relative to the stock market listing of Marsa Maroc analyzing the evolution perspectives between 2016 and 2019, the national marine traffic will register an annual growth in volume of 2.5%. This progress closely follows the evolution of trade exchange. By 2019 the national traffic will be about 91 million tons thanks to, among other factors, the development supported by containers (+4.6%), increase of bulk liquids (+2.5%) and that of Roll-On, Roll-Off (+9.2%), to differentiate from the normal ships which are loaded vertically by cranes.
GPL boosts volume
During the same period, the traffic of bulk and conventional products should register a mean annual growth of 1.3% to reach 67 million tons in 2019 against 64 million tons in 2016. This performance is explained on the hand by the progress in importation of petroleum products, (gasoline, petrol, fuel oil…) which is explained by
the increase in consumption. This is equally a result of the rise of GPL importations to meet consumer demands and the agricultural sector, highlighted the information note. In addition to this, the increase in exportation of citruses and vegetables, evolution of steel products trade and the increase of wood importation. This means, according to the previsions, the traffic of containers should reach a volume of 1.363 KEVP
The «auto» effect
«New capacities will allow to welcome the growth of traffic gateway, notably the TC3 of Casablanca which should be operation by end of 2016». The note read that this growth will be due «to the pursuit in containerization tendency of the Moroccan maritime traffic, the increase in containerization of vegetables and fish industry from the port of Agadir and the evolution of machine and equipment importation destined for industries and agriculture as well as consumers». The RoRo traffic evolution (742 k units
in 2019) will be the result of the pursuit of good performance in the automobile exportation. On this point, the mean annual growth of vehicle traffic is previewed to reach 12.2% between 2016 and 2019.
