August 31, the African Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), in partnership with the Steering Committee of the COP22, held a meeting in which ambassadors of African countries in Morocco were invited. The objective of this conclave was to present to the audience the issues of the major event to be hosted in Marrakech from 07 to 18 November 2016, and support ongoing efforts for coordinated participation of the continent.
For the black continent, the COP22 is a real opportunity to show the commitment of African countries in the implementation of the Paris Agreement, adopted in December 2015. It should be noted that the ADB and UNECA are part of the Joint Committee mandated with the management of the “AFRICA” pavillion. This is an important area in which African countries can discuss common developmental issues; defend their interests and develop a network that would allow them put forward the efforts for a sustainable economy. UNECA, noted in a statement that during the COP22 that will be held in Marrakech, Africa “will be at the heart of various initiatives that will be taken in the COP22 village, particularly in the” Innovation and Solutions ” and ” Civil society” spaces “. The head of that division, Driss El Yazami pointed out at the conclave, “the importance of the mobilization of the African continent for Morocco, the civil society pole has visited 14 African countries to mobilize the associative fabric of the continent “. He also said that this awareness involves the media too: “” We are also educating the African press through a second press trip comprised of 60 journalists this time. ”
The Resident Representative of ADB in Morocco, Senegalese Yacine Fal, has, meanwhile, noted that “Africa is part of the solution for the implementation of the Paris Agreement that starts with the COP22 in Morocco” . She has, moreover, stated that the African priorities are four in number: adaptation, mitigation, finance and strengthening the negotiation process.
