Following the announcement by Cosumar Group of co-investment in the sugar refinery Durrah Sugar Refinery in Saudi Arabia, the ground breaking ceremony of the project was held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in the city of Yanbu located northwest of the country.
The ceremony was chaired by Prince Faisal Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Governor of the Province of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah. Cosumar was represented by its CEO, Mr. Mohammed Fikrat, and the team that will monitor the project, alongside representatives of Wilmar and Saudi partners.
This marks the start of construction of the refinery in which the commissioning is expected during the second quarter 2019. With a nominal annual capacity of 840,000 tons, the new refinery aims both to supply the local market and export in the MENA region. Cosumar participation as reference industrial partner in this project amounts to capital of 43.275% in the refinery.
