IRESEN and SOLVEO just started the DEOSTENE project. This event was held following the meeting held last October 6 and attended by representatives of both structures and those of the Economic Department of the Embassy of France.
Demostene ( Intelligent production and storage demonstrator of Green Energy) is a French innovative technology solution that will be implemented at the Green Energy Park, Research and Development platform of IRESEN and Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique, located in Ben Guérir. This management system will ensure greater energy independence through optimized operation and management of its solar resources.
The pilot consists of a controller that manages energy flow from multi-technology photovoltaic plants of Green Energy Park, a battery field with a capacity of 100 kWh for storing the excess energy and inverters capable of generating signals, allowing the plant to continue producing even if there is no network current. The project’s main goal is to implement an innovative solution for managing energy production and to adapt it to Moroccan and African needs. DEMOSTENE will increase the rate of consumption of the energy produced at the Green Energy Park, while respecting the Moroccan legislative framework, which does not yet allow the photovoltaic plants to inject the surplus energy in the medium voltage network. The controller will make decisions based on the current energy needs, but also the weather forecast up to three days. The energy produced but not consumed is stored for use at night, especially during the evening rush hour, as the kilowatt hour fare is double the peak hours. The controller will be based on the weather forecast for storing energy during sunny days, for use when conditions are less lenient.
The project will run for a period of 18 months during which the various systems will be studied, sized, installed and optimized. A Monitoring Club was created and will involve several companies, developers, operators and French and Moroccan research centers, which will follow the progress of the project and support its development and business opportunities.
The DEMOSTENE project is funded with an amount of 340,000 euros by a FASEP, of the General Treasury of France. This fund aims to encourage the development of technologies for sustainable development, stimulate growth and increase the competitiveness of French technology companies working in the field of renewable energy and develop local expertise. In the case of DEMOSTENE, this intelligent solution to energy management of photovoltaic plants shall evolve to a product adapted to the Moroccan market, with strong deployment potential in Morocco, Africa, MENA and South America.
