CGEM organized yesterday October 12, 2016 at the headquarters of the Regional Center of the East African Resources of the African Development Bank (ADB), in Nairobi (Kenya), a Business Dialogue on Adaptation of Agriculture to climate change in Africa which includes the sectors of agriculture, water, livestock, fertilizers, agro-industry, but also banks and insurance.

This Business Dialogue, initiated in 2015 as part of the preparation of France to host the COP21 consists of high-level dialogue meetings between the private sector and governments and is intended to encourage discussion on the commitments that might be provided by the private sector to the COPs. It also aims to strengthen partnerships between governments and the private sector, in particular to accelerate the development of key technologies for a low-carbon economy. CGEM has been associated with this Business Dialogue and pledged to continue the preparation for COP22. With this event, the CGEM loop three meetings scheduled on: June 27, 2016 in London, United Kingdom: Climate Finance; July 17, 2016 in Tangier, Morocco: Water and 12 October 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya: Agriculture and Adaptation in Africa.
This third Business Dialogue and Agriculture Adaptation in Africa comes at a time when the African agriculture faces a combination of structural factors that poses new challenges for food security in the continent. The objectives of this Business dialogue as outlined in the CGEM is to identify priority adaptation measures for the agricultural sector in Africa; discuss the needs of the African agricultural sector in terms of technical and financial support; discuss the role of the private sector in the development of innovative solutions and finally to question the role of research and local knowledge (intellectual capital). Note, too, that this meeting brings out a number of concrete recommendations to be submitted to COP22 negotiators under the private sector contribution.
